Turning Your Daydreams into Reality

How often do you daydream? Is it focused or random?

I confess I daydream all the time. Appropriately harnessed daydreams can help you turn your dreams into goals and your goals into desired outcomes. But, on the other hand, when left unchecked, daydreams can derail or stop you altogether.

My mind participates in two types of daydreaming: one is productive, the other destructive. I’ve dubbed the productive one “The Party Planner.” When planning the party, I consciously focus on what I want. I conjure many incredible scenarios surrounding its’ fruition. The experience is fun and inspires me to take action towards my goal.

I call my non-productive type of daydreaming “The Funeral Planner.” This scenario happens when I am anxious about a future situation. In this case, I anticipate everything that could go wrong with a situation and how I will handle it. I mean everything! I go overboard. It’s such a waste of energy, bringing my vibes down too many octaves. Over the years, I have learned that while planning for contingencies is good, it’s not good to let this process run amuck as I set the stage for negative things to occur. I am now mindful of my thoughts and work hard to stay in the present moment. Each time I catch myself planning for the funeral, I stop and ask myself how to turn it into a party.

The Practice of Focused Daydreaming

Try starting with a scenario. What would you like to achieve?

Set a timer for five minutes. I usually don’t daydream much longer than that. Otherwise, the Funeral Planner arrives. And FP is such a buzz kill!

Find a quiet place, close your eyes, and let your mind wander. Pretend that your desired outcome has already happened. What would your life look like? How would you feel? Now make it more expansive. If your daydream doesn’t feel or look good, change it until it does!

I jot down any ideas that surface. Can I implement them now? If so, I will add them to my to-do list. If they need more fleshing out, I add them to my “Me and My Big Ideas List” and determine what steps I need to take to bring them to fruition.

Are you ready to make your dreams a reality? First, make a conscious decision to daydream, with a focus on all of your wildest dreams coming true. Next, take the time to daydream regularly. Finally, take action steps based on your inspiration. Taking action is essential. For years I daydreamed about the Sock Monkey Oracle, but until I took action, nothing happened.

So daydream away! You’ll be amazed at how fast things shift in a positive direction! I’d love to hear what you’ve brought forth as a result of your daydreams. Please share your creations in the comments.
