Here’s another heartwarming sock monkey story! Thank you, Susan O’Neil, for sharing your sweet story and photos! I love that they have been a common thread of warmth and love in your life. They have wonderful energy and leave me with a smile.
“I recently commented on your blog about how I treasured an old Sock Monkey my Mom had made probably in the early 60s when I was 5 or 6 years old. He has been on my life journey with me ever since, along with some old Raggedy Anns that my Mom also made.
The photo on the right is of my old Sock Monkey surrounded by a few others acquired over the years (including Russell Wilsock, who is named after the Seattle Seahawks former quarterback Russell Wilson).
The photo on the left is of my old Sock Monkey with my oldest two Raggedy Anns – the one to the left was the 3rd rag doll she had made that had been given to my oldest childhood friend, and the other one is the first one she had made – her face stained by a grape juice drink I had spilled on her face way back when. (Sadly, the 2nd doll she made was a Raggedy Andy, of which I no longer have).
Anyway – they are all proudly displayed in our home – first in Dallas, Texas; then in Seattle, Washington, for 20 years, where we raised our family; and now in the Tampa area. They bring warm memories of my Mom, my childhood, and where life has taken me to this point in my life.
